Cultural Iconography

26May10

I apologise for the slight delay in my posts as I was away for the Victoria Long weekend (no internet!).Other than visiting my parents (who do not have a computer) – the mini-getaway was nice.

So, it gives me time to catch up on the latest finds in my search for all things beautiful. Today I came across Iconographic Magazine, a new publication based out of Spain that focuses on graphic design and typographic culture and theory.  The first one Cut and paste: a look to the past, and the second City and Type, in each issue they devise a theme. The upcoming issue is Lettering: hand made letters, in this issue you will find colaborations from artist like: Si Scott, Niels SHOE Meulman, Marian Bantjes, Underware, HandMadeFont, SuperExpresso, Vanila BCN, PixelPancho… just to name a few:

I love the theory and research behind the articles in addition to the fabulous layouts and design. I do not see where it is sold in North America but they do have an online edition (though it’s actually too small to read).

In keeping with the typography post today, I found this delicious package design by ID kommunikation, a design firm based in Sweden. They developed Bistro Brie for  Skånemejerier a Swedish food company that develops, produces and markets healthy and tasty foods. If you have a moment, check out their the company’s food catalogue…they’ve conceptualize some beautiful designs for their packaging.

Tasty and beautiful at the same time!
